What are the candidacy requirements for rhinoplasty?

Candidates for rhinoplasty are at least 14 to 15 years old and are dissatisfied with the appearance of their noses. Individuals who have difficulty breathing through the nose may also be qualified to undergo a rhinoplasty procedure performed by our Oakland surgeon, serving visitors from San Jose, San Francisco, Contra Costa County, and beyond. If you are interested in more information that will help determine your candidacy for nasal surgery, please fill out our “Are You a Rhinoplasty Candidate?” form.

How different will I look?

The aesthetic results of nose surgery are dependent on the cosmetic goals you would like to reach. At your initial consultation, Dr. Gruber will take pictures of your nose and show you a variety of potential nose job results through digital cosmetic imaging. Dr. Gruber can also show you nasal surgery before-and-after photos from some of our previous patients so that you can get a better idea of the effectiveness of the procedure.

Can rhinoplasty be performed to correct breathing problems?

Yes. Nasal conditions brought on by a deviated septum and other causes can be improved with rhinoplasty.

How is the procedure performed?

Rhinoplasty is performed either under conscious sedation or general anesthesia over a period of one to three hours. The exact details of the rhinoplasty procedure will depend on what you hope to ultimately achieve from it. Contact our rhinoplasty surgeon in the San Francisco Bay Area to schedule a consultation. How long will I need to recover from rhinoplasty?

Patients will need to wear a light splint on the nose for five to seven days after surgery in order to minimize swelling and protect the area. Most bruising and swelling should subside after two weeks; however, minor swelling can remain for several months after the procedure, and final results may not be apparent for up to one year. Normal activities can generally be resumed about a week after the procedure, although patients are cautioned not to undertake any activity that may endanger the nasal area for at least eight weeks following rhinoplasty.

Do you perform ethnic rhinoplasty?

Yes. Dr. Ronald Gruber provides state-of-the-art ethnic rhinoplasty for patients who would like to recontour the nose and/or nostrils while keeping the characteristics of their heritage, as well as individuals who wish to correct breathing problems caused by their current nasal structure.

Do you perform secondary rhinoplasty to correct or improve on a previous rhino

plasty operation?

Dr. Ronald Gruber is happy to perform secondary (revision) rhinoplasty for those who are dissatisfied with the results of a previous rhinoplasty performed elsewhere. Fortunately, revision (secondary) rhinoplasty is possible in almost all situations. Dr. Gruber will work diligently to help you attain your original aesthetic goals.
